What is The Keys Local?
The Keys Local is a data-honest field guide to the Florida Keys, island by island. The site tracks bars, restaurants, and venues, plus their happy hours, live music, and events. Coverage runs all five regions today, and Key West runs deepest. Each listing comes from the venue's own published schedule and is checked against it. Listings show when they were last checked, where we have it, and readers are told to call ahead.
Who's behind The Keys Local
The Keys Local is run by a small local team. We're not a tourism board, and we're not a content farm posting from somewhere far away. We've owned a place in the Keys for years, drive the same stretch of US 1, and get burned by the same out-of-date listings as everyone else. That's why every listing comes from the venue's own page, we check it against that page, and why we'd rather show less than something we can't stand behind. Spot something wrong? Tell us on our submit page and we'll fix it.
For anything else, use our contact page. We reply within two business days.
The "Powered by Optiwork" line at the bottom of every page means Optiwork builds and maintains the software behind this site.
What we track
The Keys Local's beat is the whole chain, from Key Largo at Mile Marker 106 down to Key West at Mile Marker 0. All five regions are loaded today.
We track four things, per venue, where we have them:
- Venues. The bars, restaurants, and spots we follow, one browsable directory, island by island.
- Happy hours. Which places run a deal, and the hours we have on file.
- Live music. Who plays where, and when the record shows a set.
- Events. What's on the calendar across the Keys, in one place instead of fifty venue pages.
A sparse listing shows only what we actually have. If all we hold on a venue is its name and island, that is all it shows. We would rather show less than pad a page with things we can't stand behind.
How we keep it accurate
Listings come from each venue's own published schedule, and we check them against the venue's own page. Where we have a last-checked date, it's shown so you can see how fresh a listing is. When a venue's own site or social post disagrees with us, the venue is right and we fix it.
Hours, happy hours, and lineups shift for holidays and events. What's shown is what each venue last posted, not a guarantee. Check the venue's own site or call ahead before you make the drive.

Where our coverage stands today
The Keys run five regions down the chain: Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon, Big Pine and the Lower Keys, and Key West.
Today, all five are loaded. We would rather ship one island done honestly than five islands half-guessed.
How the money works
Paid placement, when it exists, is labeled, kept separate, and never changes the honest rankings.
Common questions about The Keys Local
- What makes The Keys Local different from a tourism site?
- The Keys Local gives a direct, data-honest read on the Florida Keys, not a tourism pitch. The site names the tradeoff, shows a last-checked date where it has one, and tells you to call ahead.
- How does The Keys Local keep its listings accurate?
- The Keys Local takes its listings from what each venue publishes itself, checks them against the venue's own page, and shows a last-checked date where it has one. Hours and lineups still shift for holidays and events, so check the venue's own site or call ahead before you drive. More on how we review and correct listings is on our editorial standards page.
- How much of the Florida Keys does The Keys Local cover?
- The Keys Local covers all five regions of the Florida Keys today, from Key Largo at Mile Marker 106 to Key West at Mile Marker 0.
- Does The Keys Local take money from venues?
- The Keys Local keeps any paid placement labeled and separate from the honest lists. A sponsored spot never changes how a list is ranked or ordered, and the ranking code cannot see who paid. More on our editorial standards page.
